Telugu States bags 12 Medals at World Karate & Kick Boxing championships

Hyderbad: Karatekas(Karate) fighters have have created history for Telugu states by winning 12 (twelve) medals in World WKU World Karate championships. The World Karate and Kickboxing Union (WKU)-2017 Championships were held at Kerry city in Ireland. These 5 (five) day Champion ships were conducted from 28th August to 1st of September. More than 2000(Two thousand) participants from 32 (Thirty two) countries across the wold have participated in the event. “Our karatekas came up with flying colours by winning 4 silver and 8 bronze medals at the WKU World Karate championships.” said the Captain of the team and ENT surgeon at Yashoda Hospitals(Secunderabad) Dr. Dumpala Vidyasagar. He has also won a Bronze medal at event.

Most of the fighters in the team have won medals both in individual capacity and part of  Team Kumite.  Four fighter  Kavya Menon, Akansha Patil,Veluvolu Saketh,Anmish Sarath Verma have stood 2nd  in the game and brought Silver Medals. These four fightere have also won Bronzes in Team Kumite.Ashwini Anand  won Two Bronze medals both in individual and Team Kimite. The other two fighters Dr.Vidayasagar and Prabhu Charan have bagged Bronze in Team Kumite  This is a very rare victory for karatekas from Telugu States i.e.Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states to harvest a large number of medals at the world meet in this demanding and lethal contact sports,Kickboxing and Karate. India’s Coach Shihan Sai Kumar has lead the team and Panampilly Vijaya Kumar was the Indian team’s Manager for the WKU

World championship had many individual and team events including traditional karate, light contact, full contact, Kick-boxing, MMA, weapon competitions musical and non musical etc. The mangaement of WKU has announced that  next year WKU World Championships are scheduled in Athens, Greece
