Hyderabad Teen Suffers for Months Before Rare Disorder Is Detected at CARE Hospitals
Hyderabad: After nearly five months of unexplained vomiting, severe digestive distress, and repeated hospital visits, a 14-year-old boy from Hayathnagar finally found relief after doctors at CARE Hospitals diagnosed him with a rare gastrointestinal disorder known as Superior Mesenteric Artery (SMA) Syndrome.
According to doctors, the teenager had been struggling with persistent vomiting, abdominal discomfort, weakness, poor food intake, and gradual weight loss. Despite undergoing multiple tests and consultations at different hospitals, the exact cause behind his worsening condition remained undetected.
Specialists at CARE Hospitals later identified the problem as SMA Syndrome — a rare condition in which a part of the small intestine gets compressed between major blood vessels, leading to blockage of food passage and severe digestive symptoms.

Doctors said the condition is often difficult to diagnose because its symptoms closely resemble common gastric disorders, resulting in delays in treatment in many cases.
Following detailed evaluation, the boy underwent advanced minimally invasive surgery and recovered successfully. Doctors said he is now able to eat normally and has returned to regular daily activities.
“Hospitals, we are committed to delivering advanced and patient-centric care, especially in rare and challenging cases where timely diagnosis can completely change a patient’s life,” the hospital stated.
Medical experts cautioned that persistent vomiting, unexplained abdominal pain, sudden weight loss, and prolonged digestive complaints should not be ignored, particularly when symptoms continue despite repeated treatment.
For the family, doctors said, the diagnosis ended months of anxiety and uncertainty, turning a prolonged medical struggle into a story of recovery and hope.
