CARE Hospitals Vizag Successfully Treats Two High-Risk Heart Patients Through Minimally Invasive Surgery
Visakhapatnam, June 2: CARE Hospitals, Visakhapatnam has successfully treated two high-risk cardiac patients through advanced minimally invasive heart surgeries, demonstrating the growing availability of complex cardiac care in North Andhra.
The procedures were performed by a team led by Dr. Bharath Kumar Mohandoss, Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeon (Minimally Invasive and Robotic Cardiac Surgeon).
In the first case, a 64-year-old patient from Visakhapatnam suffering from severe multivessel coronary artery disease underwent a Minimally Invasive Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (MICS CABG) procedure. Doctors said the patient also had diabetes, hypertension, reduced heart function, and critical blockages in both carotid arteries supplying blood to the brain, significantly increasing the risk of stroke during surgery.
Despite the complexity of the case, the surgery was completed successfully. The patient was taken off ventilator support within hours, started walking the same day, climbed stairs the following day, and was discharged within two days.
In another challenging case, a 60-year-old patient from Eluru with severe heart disease and multiple co-existing medical conditions was successfully treated through advanced minimally invasive cardiac surgery.
According to the medical team, the patient had a high surgical risk but recovered well following the procedure.Speaking about the cases, Dr. Bharath Kumar Mohandoss said minimally invasive cardiac surgery is increasingly helping surgeons manage complex heart conditions with reduced surgical trauma, lower blood loss, smaller incisions, reduced infection risk, and faster recovery.”These cases involved severe coronary artery disease, elevated stroke risk, and reduced heart function. Advanced planning, specialised technology, and coordinated multidisciplinary care were critical to achieving successful outcomes,” he said.
Mr. G. Sukesh Reddy, Chief Operating Officer, CARE Hospitals, Visakhapatnam, said the successful management of such complex cases reflects the growing availability of advanced cardiac care in the region.Doctors noted that the burden of heart disease continues to rise due to increasing rates of diabetes, hypertension, obesity, smoking, stress, and sedentary lifestyles. They emphasised that timely diagnosis and access to specialised cardiac care can significantly improve outcomes for high-risk patients.
Hospital officials said advanced minimally invasive cardiac procedures, once available primarily in metro cities, are now becoming increasingly accessible in Visakhapatnam, enabling patients from North Andhra to receive specialised treatment closer to home.
